Filed under: General Dentistry, gum disease therapy — admin @ 10:38 am

Gum disease (also called periodontal disease) affects more Americans than heart disease, cancer, and stroke checkup2combined. At Dr. Michael Curtis’s office, we’re always looking for ways to serve patients with excellent dental care. If we find signs of gum disease at your dental visit, we can provide gentle, appropriate therapy with one of our gum care services.

About Gum Disease

Gum disease is an infection that starts below the gum line, when sticky plaque hardens into tarter. Combined with bacteria and decaying food particles, infection spreads quickly. The signs of early stage gum disease, swollen, bleeding gums, are mild enough to escape your notice. But this signals the start of a progression into a serious condition which can cause bone deterioration, tooth loss, and spread infection into your entire body.

Gum Disease Therapy

Periodontal therapy consists of several different treatment approaches designed to restore gum health and eradicate disease. These include:

  • Scaling – which removes plaque that lurks below the gum line
  • Root Planing – to smooth rough tooth roots
  • Antibiotic Therapy – which will remove infection in the periodontal pockets
  • Surgery – when gum disease becomes more advanced, we may recommend surgical procedures that Dr. Curtis can perform here at our office.

If you are concerned your mouth may be exhibiting signs of periodontal disease, call our Bridgeport, Trumbull, Fairfield office in Commerce Park near the Trumbull Mall to schedule an appointment with Dr. Michael Curtis. With advanced equipment and a caring approach, the our team will address any oral problems that concern you.
