Tooth extraction does not have to be a negative or drawn-out experience. Dr. Michael Curtis can perform tooth extractions quickly and comfortably to treat a variety of dental conditions. Patients suffering from cracked, broken, decayed, or otherwise damaged teeth (who aren’t candidates for alternative treatment, e.g. root canal therapy) benefit from this straightforward procedure. As a general dentist, Dr. Curtis regularly performs simple tooth extractions at our Trumbull, Bridgeport dental office.

Reasons for tooth extraction include:

  • Impacted, misaligned, or nonfunctional wisdom teeth (third molars)
  • Placement of full dentures when a few compromised teeth remain
  • Orthodontic treatment when teeth are overcrowded
  • Broken, cracked, or excessively decayed teeth that cannot be restored

Before your tooth extraction, expect Dr. Curtis to perform a comprehensive exam, including X-rays. This will help him determine the appropriate course of action. You may feel apprehension, so we will thoroughly explain what to expect and answer all of your questions before we proceed. In advanced cases, we may refer patients to an oral surgeon for specialized care.

The day of your tooth extraction, we will anesthetize your soft tissues and gently rock the tooth to expand the socket. You will feel pressure, but the local anesthetic will prevent you from feeling discomfort. Post-extraction, we will give you specific instruction on how to care for the treated area. A small amount of bleeding is normal and ice and ibuprofen will help with swelling.

We will partner with you before, during, and after treatment. If you need a replacement tooth or teeth, Dr. Curtis will discuss your options. In general, we offer bridges, partials, dentures, and dental implants.

If you have any questions about tooth extractions or would like to schedule your consultation, call our Trumbull, Bridgeport dental office. We’re conveniently located two blocks from the Trumbull mall in the Commerce Park Professional building.
